In an apparent move to forestall a repeat of the ugly experience in Bayelsa State where inconsistencies in the names entered into credentials played a major role in the fate it suffered in the last governorship election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will publicly display Edo State Governorship aspirants’ credentials for claims and objections.

The party made this known through Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, its National Publicity Secretary in a statement on Friday morning.

The public display, which is certainly an innovation in the screening process of political aspirants and office seekers, will run for two days from Monday to Tuesday, June 8-9 both in Benin City, capital of Edo State and at the National Secretariat, Abuja, concurrently.

The party said: “In our bid to ensure due diligence and transparency in the screening exercise and learning from our recent shocking experiences, we are determined to avoid any lapses in the process.

“Therefore, we are making the submitted information and documents of the governorship aspirants available to our party members and the public for verification of claims and to support the screening panel with information or any objection to the claims contained in the submission by the aspirants.

“Consequently, the various submissions will be displayed at the Party's National Secretariat in Abuja and in Benin City, the Edo State capital from Monday 8th to Tuesday 9th June, 2020 for claims and objections.

“We are inviting party members and indeed members of the public to assist the screening committee by scrutinizing the information, credentials and documents provided by the governorship aspirants and availing the Screening Committee of counter and correct information, if applicable. ”, the party stated.

The party also revealed that six aspirants will slug it out in their bid to fly the party’s flag in the coming governorship election during the primary that has been fixed for June 22.
