The senatorial contest in Gombe state promises to be very interesting. Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State is among 40 candidates whose particulars were displayed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to vie for the three senatorial seats in the state.

According to a  report, Daily Trust, Dankwambo has been handed the ticket won by one of his commissioners, Mohammed Usman Ribadu, in what was largely seen as Plan B in the event he lost the presidential ticket.

After losing the PDP’s presidential primaries in Port Harcourt, Ribadu had at a rally organized to welcome Dankwambo back to the state announced that he had stepped down for his boss.

The governor will slug it out with 16 others, including a onetime senator, Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali.

Also on the list is Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje who currently represents Gombe Central Senatorial district on the platform of APC.

Gombe-North senatorial district had the highest number of candidates with 17, followed by Gombe-Central and Gombe-South with 12 and 11 candidates respectively. To political observers and writers, this is one contest that promises to be exciting.
