The Nigeria Custom Service Kano/Jigawa Command says it has generated over N2 Billion in the month of August.
The Command’s Comptroller, Nasir Ahmad stated this while briefing journalists in kano. Ahmad said the Command is using all avenues to block smuggling which has now become a challenge in border communities.
The comptroller explained that the N2 billion generated in the Command was the first of its kind, stressing that it was as a result of the absolute commitment of officers and men of the command.
Ahmad noted that the main problem the command was facing in dealing with smugglers is lack of cooperation from border communities, and called on Traditional Leaders to support the command in addressing the challenge.
“The main challenge our officers and men are facing is that some traditional leaders at the border communities are supporting their children who are into smuggling and despite all our efforts they still remain on prowl”.
On the allegation that customs personnel have been raiding Markets to seize contrabands, the Controller explained that they have the legal Warrant to raid all places suspected as warehouses of contrabands.
He maintained that the command would not relent in fighting smuggling activities with the aim of boosting the Nation’s Economy.
