Balogun Market Fire: Policeman Killed As Burning Building Collapses

The fire that gutted a six storey plaza in the popular Balogun market in Lagos Island on Tuesday claimed the life of a policeman as the front section of the building collapsed, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Part of the six-storey building located at 43 Martins Street, Lagos Island, collapsed around 8:30p.m. on Tuesday as firemen continued spirited efforts at extinguishing the inferno.

The policeman reported to be on duty trying to control the surging crowd was said to be severely injured.

Confirming the death, Mr Olanrewaju Elegushi, Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Lagos Central Business District, told NAN that the policeman died in hospital following injuries sustained in the building collapse. Source: NAN
