Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on Friday announced the appointment of Hon. Chiedu Ebie as Secretary To State Government (SSG).

Ebie was the immediate past Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in the state.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Government House and Protocol, Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, Governor Okowa, also approved the following key appointments which take immediate effect:  Olorugun David Edevbie, Chief OF Staff; and Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Senior Political Adviser.

Olorogun Edevbie was the immediate past Commissioner for Finance while Hon Funkekeme was the Director General of the Campaign Organisation in the recent election the returned Governor Okowa to office.

The new SSG is coming into office with what observers called requisite experience in both public and corporate governance.

Before he was appointed the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in 2015, he had spent almost 12 years at Millennium Oil & Gas Company (MOGCL), with half of those years as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer where he ensured that MOGCL used petroleum industry best practices and adhered to safety principles for its employees, operations and the environment.

A Law graduate of the University of Benin and Nigerian Law School, Ebie after graduation from law school, first joined the Broad Bank of Nigeria Limited. After two years, he turned attention to practicing business law with Nigerian law firms and supplemented these responsibilities by serving for a decade as corporate secretary with Thisday Newspapers, a very influential newspaper in the country.

He was associate counsel with Aluko & Oyebode, but later held the position of partner with Okonjo, Odiawa & Ebie and with Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors.

Many politicians in the state and government observers had waited with bated breath to see who would pick up the mantle of SSG since Governor Okowa was sworn in on Wednesday.

According to reports, a mild drama played out around mid day on Friday when people described as hackers tampered with the Face Book account of the former SSG, Hon Ovie Agas, and planted the news of his Re-Appointment in it. The fake story which had gone viral in instance as a result of the waiting by politicians and interested members of the public was soon disowned by him.
