The sum of $6 million has been injected into the “Save One Million Lives Health Programme for Results” of Niger State Government, by the World Bank, the Commissioner for Health and Hospital Services, Mustapha Jibrin said on Thursday.

According to Daily Trust, Jibrin said this while addressing journalists in Minna.

He said the state attracted the global apex bank funding following its prudent management of the resources of the state’s health sector and the outstanding policies initiated by the administration since 2015.

“The state was awarded with the funds after certain indices were surveyed.  Among the indices considered was the state government efforts in the establishment of primary healthcare under one roof.

“Niger State is among the states that have established primary health centres and is also ranked second place in the country in the maintenance of primary health care centers.

“The state has also showed remarkable increase in the numbers of skilled birth attendants in the primary health centres with over 400 health workers and 100 nurses and midwives employed across the state.

“Other indices surveyed were the state’s efforts in the control of HIV/AIDS, which is now below 1%. Distribution of long lasting insecticides and treated nets for malaria, use of contraceptives  and increase in the adoption of family planning,” he said.
